Short Hills and Millburn were founded in 1862 by Stuart Hartshorn, the inventor of the venetian blinds. Hartshorn commissioned the Morris/Essex train lines $2,000 to create a stop, which led to an influx of residents, ensuring the popularity and success of the town. Its beautiful homes sit along winding streets flush with monumental trees.

One of the most affluent communities in the country, its shopping opportunities are endless. The downtown’s shops range from local businesses, clothing boutiques and restaurants, to well-known destinations including Trader Joe’s, Soul Cycle, Flywheel, and Pure Barre. Whole Foods is minutes away. For a larger breadth of shopping there’s The Mall at Short Hills, one of the premium shopping destinations in New Jersey.

Downtown Millburn is perhaps best known for its famed Millburn Deli, but don’t forget about the many other highly rated restaurant options, including Basilico for Italian food, Tillie’s for farm-to-table, and Common Lot, a new restaurant rated as “excellent” by the New York Times.

Short Hills/Millburn schools are consistently rated in the top five in the state. Maintaining its high standards and offerings to residents, there are numerous athletic clubs, public and private pools and golf courses, and the Paper Mill Playhouse.
